Road Safety

Road safety refers to transportation safety among road users and is a major concern in Europe and globally. According to the UN, road traffic deaths are also the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-29, and road traffic injuries are the eighth leading cause of death globally. Road traffic deaths and injuries also cause economic and financial losses to society. CORTE plays a role in addressing these challenges as a partner in different EU-funded projects.

CORTE currently takes part in a consortium implementing an EU-financed project called SOTERIA which aims to accelerate the attainment of the Vision Zero EU goal for vulnerable road users (VRUs), through a holistic framework of innovative models, tools and services that enable data driven urban safety intelligence and facilitate safe travelling of VRUs. The project engages Living Lab communities for the co-creation of urban safety solutions and infrastructure designs. Simulation models and explainable AI driven analytics are developed for supporting policy decisions and informing interconnected services that support VRUs in safe and clean travelling. CORTE is leading the work which will result in a set of policy recommendations to facilitate the deployment of safe solutions for VRUs in EU cities.

Recently, CORTE participated in a consortium implementing an EU-financed project supporting the process of improving road safety and the introduction of the digital tachograph in Morocco. CORTE is assisting in the development of a road traffic control strategy for professional transport in Morocco and the process of convergence towards AETR and the EU, through institutional capacity building and strengthening the role of inspection.
